Episode Recap

From ‘reply all’ to real outcomes, Phoenix leaders chart a path forward

Navigating leadership landmines, catching up with a ceiling-breaking leader, and shifting from charity to change

PHOENIX (STN) – If you’re looking for actionable, sustainable solutions to systemic issues, ‘It Happens at STN’ continues to prove it’s the place to find them. In October, a live studio audience of C-suite executives, community changemakers, and nonprofit leaders experienced the revolutionary local media event that is transforming how Arizona tackles community improvement.

Following a record-setting September show, the second episode of Season 4 built on that momentum with the clarity and urgency that define the program’s mission to turn ideas into action.

UMOM’s Jackson Fonder and Monique Lopez opened the October show by addressing what they call “leadership landmines” — reply-all email chains, meetings without agendas, and collaboration chaos that slows progress.

The conversation then shifted to NASCAR’s Phoenix Raceway President Latasha Causey, who returned to the STN stage for the first time since Season 3. The first Black female track president in NASCAR history, Causey spoke about opening doors for the next generation of leaders and how the sport’s open-access culture continues to draw new fans.

The episode wrapped up with an important McQuaid Mission discussion about shifting the mindset on solving homelessness from charity to change. Keys to Change leaders Amy Schwabenlender and Richard Crews emphasized the need for sustained investment and why funders must understand that significant, lasting change takes time.

Episode two also featured a conversation with Valley Leadership CEO Dave Brown, who stopped by to promote his STN+ content; an in-depth look at the leadership approach of Trisha Stuart, director of community relations at Mercy Care; and the announcement of a new partnership between STN and the Phoenix Business Journal.
