‘Experience everything’: Dr. Charnise Moore reflects on her journey

Family and mentors shape a leadership style grounded in respect, equity, and connection for all

PHOENIX (STN) – At the offices of the newly rebranded AllThrive 365, formerly Foundation for Senior Living, Chief Program Officer Dr. Charnise Moore leads more than 20 programs designed to support Arizona’s aging population, from senior centers and behavioral health services to home weatherization. But beyond the job description, her leadership is grounded in empathy, humility, and an unwavering commitment to community.

“I draw my leadership style from my family,” Dr. Moore said. “I’ve seen high points and low points, and those experiences taught me to respect people no matter what walk of life they come from.” Inspired by her parents’ military service and work ethic, Dr. Moore credits her upbringing for instilling the values that guide her today.

Growing up a “military brat” with roots in Hawaii, Guam, and Mississippi, she developed adaptability and responsibility at an early age. “Mississippi is home to me,” she said fondly. “That’s where I really built my character.” Although she initially set out to become a pediatrician, a tough chemistry class led her to pivot into public health—a path that eventually led to a doctorate and leadership roles in healthcare compliance before joining AllThrive 365.

A path to leadership built on family values inspires community change:

Today, she oversees a diverse portfolio of programs that address health, housing, and connection for Arizona’s seniors. “We know that by 2030, there will be more people over 65 than under 18,” she explained. “The work we do is essential and deeply personal.” Whether helping a family care for an aging parent or ensuring a senior has safe housing, Dr. Moore sees her role as a connector of resources and hope.

Her leadership philosophy centers on empathy and empowerment. “I want to treat everyone the way I’d want someone to treat my own father,” she said. “And I hope I can be for others what my mentors have been for me.”

Her advice for aspiring leaders is simple yet powerful: “Experience everything. Even if you don’t win, it’s still something you can draw on later. Take risks. Keep striving.”
