UMOM’s workforce development program inspires hope

Statistics show the quickest path to housing for those experiencing homelessness is steady employment. One critical piece of the services that UMOM New Day Centers provides is workforce training and job-readiness programs. 

UMOM’s workforce development team hosts a monthly job fair, linking clients to a variety of employment opportunities. Partnering with dedicated businesses, UMOM paves the way to steady jobs, which helps lead to permanent housing.

Job Fair

Our UMOM job fair is held once a month. It is a way for our clients to get in contact with employers at our job fair events.

By the end of this fiscal year, we will have helped 800 of our clients find jobs. Our goal is to average 75 employments every month. We also help our under-employed clients find other job opportunities to help get their income above the living wage margin.

So many of our clients are ready to work and would be great assets to any company they join.

Teamwork

Part of our job is to help our clients find employment but the other part of it is reaching out to employers. They have been gracious enough to come out to our job fairs. They understand our population, and more importantly, they want to employ our clients. It is a combination that has coexisted really well.

Creating Employment Opportunities

We need people. UMOM has the people we need at Circle K.

I speak with UMOM’s clients about the positions we are hiring for, we get their information and from there we get them scheduled for an interview.

Every time we have a job fair event, we have people lined up to speak with us. UMOM’s clients are here for a second chance. I love coming to speak to people who are excited about having a second chance in life.
