Phoenix (STN) – Another packed house at STN Studios in downtown Phoenix brought together leaders from across Arizona to confront a shared reality: the challenges facing nonprofits and community organizations are growing, but so is the urgency to innovate.
The April episode of ‘It Happens at STN’ focused on how leaders are adapting in real time, starting with a conversation on event strategy. Arizona Pet Project CEO Leanna Taylor joined ‘Leading in the Moment’ to explore how shifting away from large-scale fundraising models toward more targeted, relationship-driven events can increase impact while reducing costs.
That theme of intentional decision-making carried into a discussion on nontraditional partnerships, as Arizona Financial Credit Union’s Jason Paprocki highlighted the importance of moving beyond financial support to provide expertise, resources and infrastructure that help nonprofits scale their work.
Innovation under pressure remained a central focus throughout the episode. Leaders from Ability360 addressed the growing uncertainty tied to Medicaid funding changes and outlined how organizations are preparing now to protect critical services for people with disabilities. Their approach emphasized creativity, advocacy and deeper engagement with caregivers and community partners.

Reinforcing the theme of innovation in the face of budget uncertainty, Kim Despres, RN, DHA, CEO of Circle the City, joined ‘McQuaid Mission’ to highlight the importance of investing in long-term systems to ensure sustainable progress.
With only two episodes remaining, momentum is building toward the Season 4 finale as ‘It Happens at STN’ continues to redefine the role of local media in solving complex challenges by showcasing alignment, adaptability and a willingness to rethink traditional approaches.
